H. Jai Ellison

H.Jai Ellison is a 27-year veteran of radio. He has been a Program Director in Richmond and a Music Director in Norfolk, Va. for over 10 years. H.Jai got his start in radio while living in Washington D.C. He has worked in the Norfolk, Richmond and Charlotte markets. H.Jai was one of the first jocks to work in two different markets at the same time. He worked morning drive in Richmond at an R&B station and evenings in Norfolk at a Top 40 station.

In 1998, Ellison decided to do a gospel newsletter after accepting the Lord. This newsletter was so successful in the Hampton Roads Market that he wanted to take it worldwide and put it on the Internet. Thus, Gospel-Spotlight.com is born and the rest is history. Ellison says, “ God gave me a vision and he wanted this to be my ministry. I thank God everyday for the strength to do a newsletter, a website, Internet radio show, interview hot gospel artists and a syndicated nationwide radio show”. God is the center of H.Jai Ellison’s life and he would not have it any other way.

Ellison has done various formats including Urban, Adult Contemporary, Top 40, News, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Gospel. In 1985, he was a hip-hop pioneer being the first to have a Rap Attack show on radio five days a week in afternoon drive. The show garnered 1# general market ratings on station WRAP in Norfolk. In the 90’s H.Jai’s success included a top rated 7pm – Midnight Show playing Adult Contemporary music. The show was called “For Lovers Only”. It was the first and last time in the Norfolk market that the Quiet Storm format was beaten. H.Jai has also worked a Gospel format for a Broadcasting Network that is heard in 52 markets and over 200 cities nationwide. His Praise Party is one of the hottest and most innovative gospel shows to come along in a while. Since H. Jai originated the Praise Party several people have copied and called their show the Praise Party. This makes H. Jai happy to know that God gave him a vision and now others are carrying on his vision everywhere.

Today H.Jai Ellison is CEO/President of Henry V. This Company handles advertising, promotions, consulting, a newsletter, a website and programming. He does weekends (Saturday & Sundays) at the number 1# rated gospel station in Virginia, WXEZ 94.1. H.Jai’s motto is "Seek God first and his righteousness, and all things will be added to you."
